Shampoo Trials

I had ment to write more about food but I've been working on other things. So what I will do is post the notes from my home made shampoo trials. I have sensitive skin and often have problems with ichy scalp and even some flaking and little sores like pimples - nothing serious just annoying. My base is baking soda, some people use just baking soda and like it although there is a adjustment period when your hair can be worse before it gets better. I also have been rinsing with apple cider vinegar diluted with water, and no, once your hair is dry the smell is gone and you just smell clean. Keep in mind that this is a work in progress and I will post more results later - if you want to try for yourself I suggest you do some research to find what ingrediants might work better for your type of hair and skin. Here are the notes:

SHAMPOO TRIALS

January - This is the first home shampoo that I have tried, lets see how it goes…

1) Baking soda
Castile soap
Herb tea / lavender, rosemary, nettle, sage, ?
- Rinse w/ diluted apple cider vinegar
Results: Ok, the vinegar made my hair feel like silk while it was wet but my hair dried a bit stiff, not bad but I didn’t really like it, although my scalp is better and it feels clean.
Suggestions: Don’t forget the chamomile in the tea, maybe some tea tree oil too. A bit of olive oil or such might help keep it from feeling quite as dry.
Maybe less vinegar and a little essential oil for scent

February

1) Baking soda
Castile soap
Herb tea/ lavender, nettle, sage, chamomile (forgot the rosemary)
- Rinse with diluted apple cider vinegar
Results: So far so good - I had used a “natural” store bought shampoo in between. I like the feel of what I make myself tho - still having some problems with flaking - darn it! I’m going to try just the home made shampoo for a week or two and see what happens. Maybe I should use it a little more often too.

2) This time I am trying it without any soap - it doesn’t really make many suds and I feel clean anyway. Still having problems with flaking after a couple of days, but I may just need to wash more often. I did some research online and a couple of people said they got a bit flaky at first but that it clears up after a month or two. They also say that you have to wash your hair a little more often at first. I would like to get it down to 2 or 3 times a week. This time I’m using this recipe:
Baking soda
Tee tree oil
Herb tea: Sage, rosemary, chamomile, nettle, lavender
- wondering if I should add some olive oil….
And rinse with diluted apple vinegar
I’ve read that a bit of coconut oil put on as it dries is a very good conditioner. Don’t think I will try that today.
Results: I did add a little bit of olive oil to the mix. While I’m sure it is good for my hair, it left it a bit … not exactly greasy but it needs to be washed again so tomorrow I will wash again (usually it is at least 3 days for me) I’ll use the same recipe with out the oil and see how that turns out.

Try, try again.
